The Pretext at Badr
Wahb ibn Umayr was a young man of Banu Jumah taken captive by the Muslims at Badr. His father Umayr ibn Wahb, plotting with Safwan ibn Umayya to assassinate the Prophet ﷺ, came to Madinah with a poisoned sword — using his son’s captivity as his cover story. When the Prophet ﷺ revealed to Umayr the secret words only he and Safwan had spoken, Umayr embraced Islam — and the Prophet ﷺ ordered: “Free his prisoner.” Wahb was set free with his father. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 211–212 — Kandhlawi — Wahb ibn Umayr a Badr captive; his father's assassination plot foiled; the Prophet orders Wahb freed when Umayr embraces Islam.
