Son of a Martyr of Uhud
Jabir ibn Abdullah was an Ansari of Banu Salima. His father Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Haram had kept Jabir home from Uhud to care for his many sisters, and fell there a martyr, leaving the young Jabir with seven sisters and heavy debts to a creditor. 1 Stories of the Sahabah · pp. 281–282 — Zakariyya Kandhlawi — Jabir's father keeps him from Uhud to mind his sisters, and is martyred, leaving debts. When Jabir wept and uncovered his father’s face, the Prophet ﷺ told him the angels had been shading him with their wings; and later the Prophet ﷺ walked among Jabir’s heaps of dates, made du’a, and the creditors were paid in full while the dates remained as though untouched. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 549, 627 — Kandhlawi — the angels shade Jabir's martyred father; the Prophet blesses the dates so the debt is paid in full.
A Great Narrator
Jabir lived long and became one of the most prolific narrators of the Prophet’s ﷺ words, teaching in Madinah, where he died — among the last of the Companions in the city of the Prophet ﷺ.
