First to Pledge at the Saqifa

Bashir ibn Sa’d was an Ansari chief of the Khazraj and the father of Nu’man ibn Bashir. When the Prophet ﷺ passed away and the Ansar gathered at the Saqifa, and Abu Bakr argued that leadership should rest with the Quraysh while the Ansar would be their trusted helpers, it was Bashir ibn Sa’d who first stretched out his hand and pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr — and the people followed him, so that the community was united. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 405 — Kandhlawi — Bashir ibn Sa'd is the first to pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr at the Saqifa, after which the people unite. He fought at Badr, and afterward gave his life in the campaigns in Iraq.
