‘This Is Unfair’

Abu Khaythama returned to his orchard during the Tabuk expedition and found his two wives had prepared the shade, cold water, and food. He stopped at the threshold and exclaimed:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is in the burning sun and I am in the shade — this is unfair!”

He saddled his camel and rode out alone into the desert to catch the army. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 448–449 — Kandhlawi — Abu Khaythama rebukes himself in the orchard and rides out alone for Tabuk.

A Recognition From Afar

As he caught up, the Prophet ﷺ saw him in the distance and said: “Be Abu Khaythama!” — and he was. The Prophet ﷺ supplicated for him. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 3 · pp. 122 — Idris Kandhlawi — the Prophet ﷺ recognises Abu Khaythama from afar and supplicates for him.
