Orphan in a Companion’s Care
Zayd ibn Arqam was an orphan raised in the household of Abdullah ibn Rawaha, who took him along on the long ride to Mu’ta seated behind him on his saddle-pack. He grew up in the company of the Companions, and was a great narrator after them. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. — — Kandhlawi — Zayd ibn Arqam as an orphan in the care of Abdullah ibn Rawaha; he rides behind him to Mu'ta.
The Word That Brought Down a Surah
The hypocrite chief Abdullah ibn Ubayy said on a campaign, “If we return to Madinah, the honourable will surely drive out the humiliated.” The young Zayd heard him and went to the Prophet ﷺ and reported it. When Ibn Ubayy denied it on oath and the Prophet ﷺ rebuked Zayd, Allah revealed Surah al-Munafiqun, vindicating the boy and naming the hypocrites’ duplicity. 2 Stories of the Sahabah · pp. — — Zakariyya Kandhlawi — Zayd ibn Arqam reports Ibn Ubayy's words; Surah al-Munafiqun is revealed in his favour.
A Promise of Paradise
When Zayd developed a cataract, the Prophet ﷺ came to visit him and asked: “O Zayd, what will you do if you lose your eye?” — “I shall be patient, looking for the reward.” The Prophet ﷺ said: **“If you are patient and seek the reward, your reward will be Paradise.”* 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 595 — Kandhlawi — the Prophet visits Zayd in his eye-illness and promises him Paradise if he is patient.
The Two Weighty Things at Ghadir Khum
