The Father of Ammar
Yasir ibn Amir came to Makkah from Yemen in search of a lost brother, settled there in alliance with Banu Makhzum, and married Sumayya, of whom Ammar was born. 1 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 90 — Idris Kandhlawi — Yasir comes from Yemen, allies with Banu Makhzum, and marries Sumayya; Ammar is their son.
A Martyr Under Torture
With his wife and son, Yasir was among the first to accept Islam and so among the first to suffer for it, tortured on the sands of Makkah while the Prophet ﷺ passed and gave them the glad tidings of Paradise: “Patience, O family of Yasir — your abode is Paradise.” Yasir died under that torment — among the very first martyrs of the Ummah, his wife Sumayya martyred soon after. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 301–302 — Kandhlawi — the family of Yasir tortured; the Prophet's glad tidings; Yasir dies under torture, an early martyr. 3 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 92 — Idris Kandhlawi — Yasir passes away under the torture, before Sumayya.
