The Word That Diverted a Sword
Nu’aym ibn Abdullah was an early Muslim of Banu Adi — Umar’s own clan — who had concealed his Islam. As Umar set out sword in hand to kill the Prophet ﷺ, Nu’aym met him on the road and asked his purpose. Hearing what Umar meant, Nu’aym answered: “First go and set right your own house — your sister Fatima and her husband Sa’id ibn Zayd have already embraced Islam.” 1 Al-Farooq · pp. 41–43 — Shibli Nomani — Nu'aym intercepts Umar and directs him first to Fatima's house. The words turned Umar’s fury toward his own family — and so to the recitation of Ta-Ha at his sister’s house and the conversion that changed Islam. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 108–109 — Idris Kandhlawi — Nu'aym sends Umar to Fatima first, leading to his Islam.
