A Man Thought Little Of
Julaybib was an Ansari whom the people of Madinah dismissed; Abu Barzah warned his own wife never even to be seen by him. Yet the Prophet ﷺ saw what they did not. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 681 — Kandhlawi — Julaybib was thought little of in Madinah; Abu Barzah's warning to his wife.
A Marriage by the Prophet’s ﷺ Word
The Prophet ﷺ went to an Ansari father and asked him to give him his daughter. The father agreed; then the Prophet ﷺ said: “I do not wish to marry her to myself — but to Julaybib.” The mother cried out, “To Julaybib? Never! To Julaybib? Never!” — but the daughter said: “Are you then rejecting the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Marry me to him — for he shall never destroy me.” The Prophet ﷺ performed the marriage. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 681 — Kandhlawi — the Prophet arranges Julaybib's marriage to the Ansari girl; the daughter's words.
‘He Is of Me, and I Am of Him’
In a battle later, the Prophet ﷺ counted his men and said: “I find Julaybib missing — look for him.” They found him beside seven men of the enemy he had killed before they killed him. The Prophet ﷺ stood over his body and said three times: “He killed seven before they killed him. He is of me, and I am of him.” He took the body in his own arms, and laid him in the grave. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 681 — Kandhlawi — Julaybib martyred after killing seven; 'He is of me and I am of him'; the Prophet lays him in the grave.
