Commander of the Conquests
Iyad ibn Ghanm was set by Abu Bakr over Dumat al-Jandal after the Ridda, where he joined forces with Khalid ibn al-Walid against the gathered Christian Arabs. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 301, 304–305 — Najeebabadi — Iyad at Dumat al-Jandal with Khalid against the Christian Arabs.
Aleppo, Antioch, and the Jazira
Under Abu Ubayda he was sent as commander of the vanguard against Aleppo, and the city surrendered to him. He and Habib ibn Maslama then crushed the revolt at Antioch. In 17 AH, Umar sent him with five thousand men into upper Mesopotamia — and within days the cities of Edessa, Harran, Nisibis, Saruj and Qarqisia accepted his terms; the whole Jazira came into Islam. 2 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 352–353, 357 — Najeebabadi — Iyad takes Aleppo, suppresses Antioch, and conquers the Jazira in 17 AH.
