The Healer Who Came to Cure the Prophet ﷺ
Ibn Abbas narrated: “Dimad was a man from the Azd Shanu’a tribe who used to cure insane people and people affected with evil spirits using some words that he recited. He had heard some foolish people of Makkah saying that Muhammad was an insane man. He said, ‘Where is this man? Perhaps Allah will cure him at my hand.’” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 90–92 — Kandhlawi — Dimad the healer comes to Makkah to cure the Prophet ﷺ.
’I Have Never Heard Such Words’
The Prophet ﷺ recited the Khutbat al-Hajah: “Verily all praise is for Allah. We praise Him and seek help from Him…” Dimad replied: “By Allah! I have heard the words of fortune-tellers, the words of magicians and the words of poets. I have never heard such words before. Give me your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you on Islam.” The Prophet ﷺ accepted his bay’ah for himself and for his people. Later, on the Prophet’s ﷺ instruction, Ali returned camels that had been taken from Dimad’s people. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 90–92 — Kandhlawi — Dimad takes the bay'ah for himself and his people; Ali later returns their camels.
In History of Islam
“Dimad Azdi was a noted sorcerer and citizen of Yemen. Once he came to Makkah and came to know from Quraysh that Muhammad ﷺ was possessed by jinn. He claimed that he would cure him through his incantation… Saying this he entreated the Prophet ﷺ, ‘Please stretch out your hand, I embrace Islam right now.’” 3 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 129 — Najeebabadi — Dimad Azdi's account; he embraces Islam.
