The Poisoned Goat at Khaybar
After the conquest of Khaybar, a Jewish woman named Zaynab bint al-Harith offered the Prophet ﷺ a roasted goat into which she had poured poison. Bishr was beside him at the meal; the Prophet ﷺ took a morsel, sensed the poison and spat it out — but Bishr swallowed his and died of it. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 208 — Najeebabadi — Bishr ibn al-Bara dies from the poisoned Khaybar goat.
When Bishr’s death made the poisoning a capital matter, the woman was handed to Bishr’s relatives for retaliation. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 2 · pp. 122 — Idris Kandhlawi — Zaynab bint al-Harith executed in retaliation for Bishr.
