‘I Am of the Highest Birth’

At Yazdajird’s palace, the Persian Emperor demanded who among the Muslims was of highest birth — he was to carry the basket of sand. “Asim ibn Amr volunteered to take the sand without consulting the others and said, ‘I am of the highest birth among them all. Let me carry the sand.’” He then rode out calling: “Give the Commander glad tidings of victory! Insha Allah, we shall certainly be victorious!” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 244 — Kandhlawi — Asim volunteers to carry the basket of sand from Yazdajird.

Speech Before Qadisiyya

He stood before the army and said: “Allah has subjected the people of this land for the past three years and the harm you have done to them is more than the harm they have caused to you. You are now in a position of superiority… Fear Allah! Fear Allah and remember the previous battles in which Allah blessed you… Make the Akhirah your objective.” 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 441 — Kandhlawi — Asim's speech before Qadisiyya; cited via Tabari Vol. 4 p. 44.

He commanded the rearguard at Qadisiyya, then with Amr ibn Ma’dikarib and Ribi ibn Amir he “moved through the Muslim army rousing the soldiers for jihad.” 3 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 338, 344 — Najeebabadi — Asim commands the rearguard at Qadisiyya; rouses the army with Amr and Ribi.

The Crossing of the Tigris

At the Tigris, before the conquest of Mada’in, “Asim ibn Amr volunteered for the task and was followed by another six hundred brave men. Sa’d appointed Asim as their commander and he led them to the bank of the Tigris…” 4 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 605 — Kandhlawi — Asim ibn Amr volunteers to lead 600 men across the Tigris.

Sijistan and Kirman

Afterwards he “conquered the province of Seistan” and was made governor of Kirman. 5 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 367, 393 — Najeebabadi — Asim conquers Sijistan and governs Kirman. Among the four men to whom Qa’qa distributed Umar’s gift swords at Qadisiyya was Asim ibn Umar at-Tamimi. 6 Al-Farooq · pp. 151 — Shibli Numani — Asim is one of the four recipients of Umar's gift swords.
