Dar al-Arqam — the First House of Islam
al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam, of Banu Makhzum, was among the earliest to accept Islam. His house, set at the foot of Mount Safa, became the first centre of the faith: there the Prophet ﷺ gathered the believers and taught the Qur’an, and every new convert came to learn — for some three years it was the secret hub of the whole call. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 109 — Najeebabadi — the Prophet makes Arqam's house at Safa the first teaching centre of Islam for about three years. The Muslims met there in secret until the conversion of Umar ibn al-Khattab, after which they could at last assemble openly. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 58 — Idris Kandhlawi — the Muslims gather secretly at Dar al-Arqam until Umar's conversion lets them worship openly. For this, the house of al-Arqam holds an honoured place in the memory of the Ummah.
