Envoy to Bahrain
al-Ala ibn al-Hadrami was the Prophet’s ﷺ envoy to Mundhir ibn Sawa, ruler of Bahrain, who embraced Islam at his hand; al-Ala remained in Bahrain when the Prophet ﷺ passed away. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 147–148 — Kandhlawi — al-Ala the Prophet's envoy to Mundhir of Bahrain.
The Apostasy and the Sea
Under Abu Bakr he was set over the tenth detachment of the Ridda wars, and after a month’s siege at Qatif he broke the apostate forces of Banu Bakr ibn Wa’il. 2 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 292–293 — Najeebabadi — al-Ala leads the Bahrain campaign and breaks the apostate forces at Qatif. Marching through an arid plain, his army parched, he prayed two rak’ahs and raised his hands; a small cloud filled the dry ponds with rain enough for all. At Darin, the enemy having fled to an island, he said: “In the name of Allah, plunge in,” and the army crossed an arm of the sea on horseback without their mounts’ hooves getting wet — defeated the enemy, took spoils, and returned by the same path. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 602–603 — Kandhlawi — al-Ala's du'a brings rain; the army crosses an arm of the sea at Darin without the hooves getting wet.
A Grave That Could Not Be Found
When al-Ala died his men buried him in soft sand and set out; turning back, fearing wild beasts would dig him up, they found the grave gone, filled instead with a brilliant light that ran as far as the eye could see. 4 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 597 — Kandhlawi — al-Ala's body disappears from the soft-sand grave; a light fills its place.
