The Grapes at Ta’if

After the people of Ta’if had set their slaves to stone the Prophet ﷺ and driven him from the city bleeding, he stopped in the orchard of Utba and Shayba. They sent their slave Addas with a tray of grapes. The Prophet ﷺ said “Bismillah” and began to eat, and Addas exclaimed: “By Allah — no one in this country says such a word!” Asked his land and faith, he answered, “I am of Nineveh, and a Christian.” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 287 — Kandhlawi — Addas brings grapes to the Prophet at Ta'if; surprised at his Bismillah. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 119 — Idris Kandhlawi — Addas's Christian faith from Nineveh; the grapes at Ta'if.

’He Was My Brother’

The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Is this the same Nineveh where the devout servant of Allah, Yunus ibn Matta, lived?” Addas was astonished: how could a Bedouin from Makkah know of Yunus? The Prophet ﷺ answered: “He was my brother — a Prophet, and I am also a Prophet.” Addas fell upon the Prophet’s ﷺ head, hands and feet, kissing them, and bore witness: “I testify that you are the servant and Messenger of Allah.” 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 288–289 — Kandhlawi — the Prophet identifies Yunus as his brother; Addas kisses his head and hands and embraces Islam. Before Badr he would beseech his masters, weeping: “By Allah — this man is the Messenger of Allah. You go to your destruction.” 4 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 120 — Idris Kandhlawi — Addas pleads with Utba and Shayba before Badr.
